£1m Government Funding for Hemel Garden Communities

Hemel Garden Communities (HGC) has received almost £1 million of Government funding.

The boost for HGC is part of a £15 million Government funding for Garden Communities which will create thousands of new homes and jobs in green neighbourhoods across England.

Hemel Garden Communities is a collaboration of three authorities: Dacorum Borough Council, St Albans City and District Council and Hertfordshire County Council, supported by the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, set up to enable sustainable local growth through new housing and jobs in the area to the north and east of Hemel Hempstead.

Hemel Garden Communities’ Board Chair, Bob Lane OBE, said: ‘We are delighted to be part of the Government’s £15m funding programme to support the delivery of thousands of new homes in beautiful and green Garden Communities across England and help identify and facilitate the infrastructure needed to encourage sustainable communities in and around Hemel Hempstead.’

The Garden Communities Programme is part of the Government’s £69 million programme to deliver up to 16,000 homes per year from 2025, creating almost 200,000 jobs and boosting the economy.

The Programme builds on the Government’s plans to level up the country, regenerate underused land and bring forward beautiful new developments. The Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill will put beauty and nature at the heart of new development design, with the introduction of mandatory design codes, which will make sure developers respect styles drawn up and favoured locally, from the layout or materials used, to how it provides green space.

This funding is in addition to the £1.5bn Levelling Up Home Building Fund, helping SME builders and to deliver over 42,000 new homes in England.
