2019 Berkhamsted Half Marathon

Living Magazines Berkhamsted Half Marathon

Now in its 37th year, the Berkhamsted Half Marathon and Five Mile Fun Run attracts an enthusiastic following, with up to 1200 runners taking on the longer distance, and 600 enjoying the Fun Run.

The Half Marathon, which tracks through attractive Chilterns countryside, is an ideally timed event for runners coming back to competitive running after winter training (or hibernation!)  It is frequently used as a serious “marker” for those training for the full marathon distance of the London Marathon and elsewhere.

The Five Mile Fun Run is a very popular event with local runners, especially family teams, local schools and community groups who raise sponsorship for their own charitable causes. Sharing part of the Half Marathon route through beautiful countryside, finishing the run gives a great sense of achievement.

Many of the entrants are teams from running clubs, businesses, and schools compete for prizes.  Last time the event was run, the best men’s and women’s Half Marathon times were 1h15m and 1h21m respectively –impressive over a picturesquely undulating course.

The event is organised by the Berkhamsted Rotary Club. On top of whatever the thousands of runners have raised in personal and team sponsorship, over the years, Rotary has been able to donate more than £250,000 from this event for various charities including the Hospice of St Francis and Pepper Foundation.

For the 2019 event, Taylor Wimpey are lead sponsor, and key supporters are Brasier Freeth, Everyone Active, FFEI and Machins, plus many others who generously contribute.
