£33,000 raised to help local hospices

Living Magazines Janet Champniss Hospice Lottery winner

Local not-for-profit organisation The Hospice Lottery Partnership raised £33,000 from its Summer Superdraw which was launched to raise much needed funds for local hospices who have all experienced an unexpected loss of income in the last few months due to the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The hospices that will receive funds raised from the Summer Superdraw include:

  • Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity based in Aylesbury
  • Harlington Hospice based in Harlington
  • Michael Sobell Hospice Charity based in Northwood
  • Rennie Grove Hospice Care covering Herts and Bucks
  • South Bucks Hospice based in High Wycombe
  • The Hospice of St Francis based Berkhamsted.

The winner of the top prize, Mrs Champniss from Leighton Buzzard was delighted to hear the news that she had won £2,000 after buying her Superdraw tickets, and including a generous donation in memory of her mum who had ovarian cancer, so that she could give something back to the hospice that helped her.

Mrs Champniss praised the care and support that her mum received from The Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted, as well as providing several courses that Mrs Champniss attended, including learning how to give her mum a foot massage and breathing techniques for calmness. ‘They were so supportive – always on the end of the line if we needed help or had any questions.’ The hospice also provided Mrs Champniss with bereavement support after her mum died.

When asked what she was going to do with her prize winnings, she said, ‘During the last few months I’ve really missed seeing all my friend and going out. So when all this is over, I would like to go to Croatia – it’s such a beautiful place.’
