Poppy Fields Cemetery – A Tranquil Haven

Poppy Fields Cemetery, the newest addition to Hemel Hempstead’s landscape, opened its gates on 31 July. Covering an expanse of 7 acres, this cemetery offers a serene and thoughtfully-designed space for families to commemorate their loved ones.

Drawing inspiration from the Victorian era, the internal layout features kidney-shaped areas bordered by roadways, providing a peaceful and timeless ambiance for visitors to find solace.

Additionally, Poppy Fields Cemetery has been carefully landscaped to create a natural habitat that supports birds, mammals, and insects, fostering biodiversity within its grounds.

To cater to families facing the most challenging times, a specific area has been dedicated for children’s burial, ensuring a compassionate and sensitive resting place for young lives.

Cllr Robin Bromham, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Operations, said: ‘Poppy Fields Cemetery is a beautiful and peaceful place that will provide a lasting tribute to loved ones. The cemetery’s natural setting and plan for environmental sustainability are a statement of the importance the Council attaches to providing a tranquil space for remembrance, reflection, and connection with nature.’

Poppy Fields Cemetery is located at Bedmond Road, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, HP3 8LL and is adjacent to Bunkers Park.
