Discount supermarket Lidl will open its Tring store on Thursday 12 February.

The local community is invited to join the grand opening celebrations at Icknield Way from 7.45am, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Mayor of Tring, Cllr Paul de Koning.

On opening day, shoppers can look forward to complimentary food sampling as well as some special prizes up for grabs.

The store will be open from 8am-10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sundays,.

The supermarket giant says the community will also benefit from what it describes as ‘the Lidl effect’. Not only does the store on Icknield Way represent a multi-million-pound investment and the creation of up to 40 new jobs, but through its surplus food donation scheme, Feed it Back – delivered with partner Neighbourly – Lidl will also provide food donations to local good causes.

With a 1,251m² sales area, the store will include the discounter’s popular in-store bakery, the now-famous Middle of Lidl, and customer facilities, including toilets with baby-changing facilities. Outside, there will be parking for cars and bicycles as well as rapid electric vehicle chargers. As part of Lidl GB’s commitment to renewable energy and carbon emissions reduction, some of the store’s power will be captured from solar panels on the roof.

Kate Bleloch, regional head of property for Lidl GB, said: ‘We are thrilled to officially open a Lidl store for the first time in Tring. This fantastic new store is a direct response to the local demand for high-quality, affordable groceries, and we couldn’t be prouder to welcome the community inside. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped us turn these plans into a reality – we can’t wait to start making a real difference to your weekly shop.’

This latest store marks a continued period of rapid growth for Lidl, as the discounter recently celebrated the opening of its 1,000th store. This new store opening forms part of the wider 19 new stores opening in just eight weeks.
