Dance your way to happiness
Whether you’re looking to get active, meet new people or simply brighten up your week, Berkhamsted Strathspey & Reel Club offers the perfect Tuesday evening escape.
Every Tuesday at Potten End, the club comes together for an evening of Scottish country dancing filled with lively music, laughter, gentle mental challenge and plenty of exercise. Best of all, it’s enormous fun. Whatever kind of day you’ve had, you’ll almost certainly head home feeling happier, more energised and with a smile on your face.
The evening starts at 7.15pm with a class for all, which focuses on some dancing basics – a great introduction for new dancers. At 8.05pm the main social dancing session begins with a mix of straightforward and more complex dances, so there is something for everyone.
‘I truly look forward to Scottish country dancing,’ says club member Alison Mountfort. ‘I felt welcomed from the very first evening, everyone was so friendly. It is such a great form of exercise for both body and mind.’
The club has created more than friendships over the years. Just ask Ken and Petula Martlew: ‘Foot-tapping music, brisk exercise, mind-challenging dance patterns, and world-wide friendship circles make Scottish country dancing the perfect formula for keeping young, fit and happy. And it’s where we met and got married…’
Committee member Susan Koffler-Sluijter sums it up perfectly: ‘Best stress buster ever. Pure joy. The music, the people – very soon to be best friends – the dancing itself, I cannot stop myself smiling.’
