Vikings Set to Raid Chiltern Open Air Museum This August Bank Holiday

Prepare for a Viking invasion this August Bank Holiday as Chiltern Open Air Museum is transformed into a battlefield of the Viking Age.

On Sunday 30 and Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, a fierce Viking warband will descend on the museum, claiming it as their stronghold and preparing for further raids into Saxon territory. Visitors will be transported back in time as the settlement comes under attack, with Viking warriors, Saxon defenders, and villagers bringing history to life.

Come and see battle re-enactments, birds of prey, listen to drumming (Sunday only), meet re-enactors, take part in the weapons drill (children only), listen to storytelling, row a Viking ship, visit the camp to see what is cooking and the skills and crafts people had during this time such as dyeing clothes and weaving. You can make a Viking bracelet, have a go at archery and axe throwing, and you can treat yourself to a bottle of mead in the museum shop.

Suitable for the whole family, this immersive event offers a unique opportunity to step into the Viking Age and experience the sights, sounds, and stories of a world of warriors, explorers, and settlers.
