Local Swimmer Makes a Splash After a 40-year Break

Former Junior and Senior International swimmer Mike Foskett has made an impressive return to the sport after a break of nearly 40 years.

The local ‘lad’ who can trace his ancestor’s presence in Berkhamsted back to over five generations is once again hitting the headlines. Foskett retired as the Assistant Headteacher at the John F Kennedy School in Hemel Hempstead in 2012 after what he says was ‘a memorable time working in an outstanding school with wonderful colleagues.’

Returning to the pool again with the Hemel Hempstead Masters Swimming Club, Mike quickly found his form again. To date in his age group he has broken the British Record four times; twice in the 200m backstroke and also in the 100m backstroke (where he achieved a silver medal at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest) and in the 200m Individual Medley. The latest success coming last month when he broke the East Region record by a staggering 28 seconds in the 200m backstroke in the Norwich Masters Open.

Asked what he has enjoyed the most since returning he quickly responds by saying: ‘the camaraderie between the Masters at Hemel S. C.  make it very special and the healthy lifestyle is an added bonus. Anyone who is interested in Masters swimming (25years +) are very welcome to come along on Club night every Thursday 8.30pm at Dacorum Leisure Centre.’
