Tring Book Festival Starts Friday

Living Magazines Tring Book Festival

Tring Book Festival runs from 8-17 November with over 30 events

For ten days, the Tring Book Festival will be transforming the Hertfordshire market town into a literary lover’s dream as a selection of the world’s finest writers, poets, actors, politicians and leading opinion formers come together to celebrate the joy of the written word. The programme includes talks, debates, interviews, presentations and workshops all hosted in a selection of wonderful venues in and around this lovely part of the home counties.

Boasting over 30 events featuring household names such as Carol Ann Duffy, Lisa Jewell, Chris Packham, Jenni Murray and Russell Kane, as well as those for younger book lovers, including the hilarious Olaf Falafel and an evening celebrating Harry Potter with Fleurble Laffalot, the Tring Book Festival has something for everyone and, with many events already selling out, there is clearly a demand for a literary scene in Tring.

The festival opens with a, very of the moment, political panel show where the other B word, Brexit not books, is sure to take centre stage as panellists, including David Gauke MP and journalist Camilla Tominey, chat with host Matt Forde. Other highlights include Lara Maiklem discussing her book Mudlarking and her finds along the banks of the Thames, Dr Mark Baldwin on the codebreaking Enigma, satirical impressionist Rory Bremner, Professor Alice Roberts on the domestic species that have shaped our lives, Library tours of Tring’s Natural History Museum and a day of classic films in the gorgeous Vintage cinema.

Tring Book Festival follows the opening of Our Bookshop in September. Owned and run by Ben Moorhouse, organiser of Tring Book Festival and Tring’s annual sell-out comedy festival, The Tringe, Our Bookshop has already hosted several events, including an evening with Costa Prize winning author Stuart Turton, and welcomed many bookworms through its doors.

Ben Moorhouse, Tring Book Festival organiser and proprietor of Our Bookshop, said: ‘We’re really excited to kick off the Tring Book Festival in a few days’ time, the line-up we’ve secured is really strong with a great mix of events. As with Our Bookshop the response from the local community has been brilliant and the events have sold really well!!’
