Chilterns Landscapes Art Exhibition
- Chilterns Landscapes art exhibition to take place at Wycombe Museum between 24 April-1 May 2022
- Exhibition will showcase fine art, submissions from local artists, and entrants from a school’s competition – all inspired by the landscapes of the Chilterns AONB
- Workshops will be on offer during the week, as well as a Children’s Day on Sunday 1 May
Chalk, Cherries and Chairs is delighted to be hosting ‘Chilterns Landscapes’, an exhibition of art inspired by the outstanding natural beauty of the Central Chilterns at Wycombe Museum between 24 April and 1 May 2022. Chalk, Cherries and Chairs is an ambitious five-year partnership scheme which aims to connect local people to the wildlife and cultural heritage of the Central Chilterns, led by the Chilterns Conservation Board.
‘Chilterns Landscapes’ showcases the relationship between art and the gently undulating, rich chalk landscapes of the Central Chilterns. The art on display celebrates both the distinctive wildlife and natural environment in this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and also the special cultural heritage which has developed here over centuries of our local history.
It is the product of our vibrant local communities, in our towns and villages, including a community of fine artists, past, present and future. The exhibition forms three parts:
- Reproductions of fine art from local and national museums
- A small sample of work submitted for consideration by some of the many contemporary commercial and amateur artists living and working in the area
- Entrants and winners of an art competition organised for local school children, who produced work inspired by their own impression of places in the region they call home.
Lachlan Stuart, Chalk, Cherries and Chairs project manager explains: ‘Alongside the beauty of the fine art pieces, visitors will be able to learn how Chalk, Cherries and Chairs is addressing the real and immediate challenges facing the Central Chilterns, including ancient woodland being sold off, wildlife habitats fragmenting through developments like housing estates and HS2, traditional orchards and hedgerows disappearing, and an increasing disconnect between people and their local landscape.
‘To help visitors and residents further connect with their local area, we will be inviting them to register their interest in events and volunteering activities related to the works of art. Our aim is that visitors will come away feeling connected to the wildlife and cultural heritage of the Central Chilterns, having learnt something new, and inspired to get involved in protecting and enhancing our incredible Chilterns Landscape.’
Visitors will also have the chance to book on to a range of art workshops happening throughout the exhibition week, including lino cutting, as well a children’s day on Sunday 1st May featuring storytelling, a scavenger hunt and arts and crafts.
