Amazing Marathon Challenge

Living Magazines Andy Tidey marathons

Andy Tidey, from Aston Clinton, is running 7 marathons in 7 days for the charity Headway, the brain injury association. He has raised nearly £3000 to date.

On Saturday 17 April he began his first marathon, running around the villages of Weston Turville, Wilstone, Marworth and Tring, completing it in 3 hours 45 minutes. His last marathon will be on Friday. He is being supported by his family and friends throughout the week.

Andy said: ‘In April I am setting out to run 7 marathons in 7 days, to raise money for Headway the brain injury association. Headway does very important work to support people who have suffered brain injuries and to develop and promote improved approaches to brain injury screening, assessment and care.

‘Brain injuries can have a devastating effect on lives and there is increasing evidence that repeated minor impacts to the head can cause serious long-term harm. As someone who has been involved in the sport of rugby over many years as a parent, coach and player and ridden (and fallen off) bikes, this is a very personal cause.

‘I have been running marathons for a number of years now, but normally enjoy a few weeks of rest, recuperation and refuelling after each event. Running consecutive marathons will be a massive new challenge.

‘I was inspired by watching Kevin Sinfield, the Leeds Rhinos, England and Great Britain Rugby League legend, and what he achieved in December last year. I decided that this would be a great way to make a contribution and to keep myself focused (and away from the fridge) during lockdown. I will be aiming to complete each marathon in under 4 hours.’
