Apply for a Green Community Grant and get up to £10,000 funding
Dacorum Borough Council’s Green Community Grant scheme will begin accepting applications on Monday 24 November, which supports local projects that focus on protecting the environment, tackling climate change, and encouraging local community engagement.
Voluntary and community groups are welcomed to apply, including school groups and parish and town councils.
To be eligible, projects must clearly demonstrate how they will contribute to the Climate and Ecological Emergency response, engage the local community, and fit into one or more of the following categories:
- Energy in Buildings
- Sustainable Transport
- Biodiversity and Nature Recovery
Three grant levels are available, with a maximum award of £10,000.
In the previous funding round for 2024/2025, over £75,000 was successfully awarded to 13 community projects across the borough, supporting schools, churches, charities and local groups to deliver practical environmental improvements.
These include:
- Nash Mills CofE Primary School: Installed solar panels to reduce energy costs, cut carbon emissions and teach students and local community groups about renewable energy and sustainability.
- Wigginton Biodiversity Enhancements Project: Is collaborating with St Bartholomew’s Church and Wigginton Primary School to plant native trees, install wildlife boxes, and create habitats to enhance local biodiversity.
- Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust: Is improving Aldbury Nowers Nature Reserve by introducing conservation sheep grazing and volunteer led habitat work to protect wildflowers, butterflies, and other chalk grassland species.
- Brockswood Primary School: Over 200 pupils are getting hands-on with nature, growing their own food, learning how to care for the environment, and creating a vibrant outdoor space for the whole community to enjoy.
Councillor Caroline Smith-Wright, Portfolio Holder for Climate and Environment, said: ‘Our Green Community Grants continue to show how much can be achieved when local people take the lead on climate action. These projects not only cut carbon and improve biodiversity, but they bring communities together and inspire others to get involved.’
