Awards for Berkhamsted in Bloom
Berkhamsted has achieved major success at the annual Anglia in Bloom 2026 awards, securing Hertfordshire County Champion (Best Town in Hertfordshire).
The town’s enthusiastic gardeners proved a massive hit at the regional ceremony, where Berkhamsted in Bloom also attained a Silver Gilt Award in the highly competitive Large Town category.
The fantastic Rectory Lane Cemetery was honoured with a Special Award for Best Community Project in the region.
The campaign highlights the incredible collaboration between local residents, businesses, and schools to enhance their town’s environment, biodiversity, and community engagement. Reflecting on the town’s impressive horticultural achievements, the Anglia in Bloom judges noted:
‘We met with some very passionate people who clearly all had a great amount of pride for Berkhamsted and what they have achieved. There are lots of pockets of land that have been improved to attract local flora and fauna. The town has many areas that have bird boxes, bug hotels as well as a wide range of wildflowers all attracting wildlife. The diverse planting and innovative ideas are a great attraction for wildlife, again this is all achieved through volunteers and donations and hard work Volunteers are clearly very enthusiastic working throughout the year improving and enhancing their community. Some of the local businesses have helped with watering and displays. Berkhamsted should be very proud of their first entry.’
This year’s overall regional winner was the village of Filby in Norfolk, with Bury St Edmunds taking the top spot in the Large Town category.
The Berkhamsted team are thinking, ‘onwards and upwards’ and are already planning events for the 2026-7 season, starting with a family crocus planting session in Canal Fields on 8 November at 2pm.
Visitors are welcome to go along and join in. All details will be posted on the Berkhamsted in Bloom Facebook page.
