Aylesbury Care Home Among First to Receive COVID Vaccine

Living Magazines Jean Bamford - Resident at Hampden Hall Care Centre recieves her first COVID vaccine from Dr Mike Thomas

Residents and staff at Westgate Healthcare’s Hampden Hall Care Centre in Aylesbury were delighted to be amongst the first in the town to receive the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID vaccine last week.

The home, situated on Tamarisk Way, caters for residents who require residential, nursing and dementia care. Resident Jean Bamford, pictured, was one of the first in line to receive the vaccine from Dr Mike Thomas of Unity Health, Princes Risborough.

‘This is the moment we’ve been waiting for! I feel very lucky and so grateful too that we have been able to have the vaccine today,’ said Joan with a very happy thumbs up!

It was also a very special moment for all of the care home team too, especially Manager, Thomas Gmiter who added, ‘I fully understand how hard it has been of late and I have to say that our team have been absolutely magnificent – rising to every challenge to ensure our residents are safe and protected. Fortunately, we have an indoor Visiting Pod here at Hampden Hall to enable our residents and their loved ones stay connected. But I know that we are all longing for the day when we can throw open our doors and welcome families and our community friends back to the home. Let’s hope we’ve now taken that first step in enabling this to happen!’
