September marks the start of the Berkhamsted Local History and Museum Society (BLHMS) 2026/27 programme of talks at Berkhamsted Civic Centre on the second Wednesday of the month. Full details in our What’s On pages.

Meanwhile, from 11–20 September, BLHMS will be participating in the Heritage Open Days Festival (HOD), hosting talks, walks, tours and exhibitions in the local area, along with other local heritage organisations.

For the first time there will be a walking tour of Bourne End, alongside events in Berkhamsted and Northchurch. The theme this year is Everyday Histories, and visitors can learn more about the people, places and unusual jobs carried out by local folk in and around our town in centuries gone by.

All events are free, but bookings must be made via www.eventbrite.com. The only exception is a free walk-in photo exhibition at St Peter’s Church, which runs throughout the week, about the working people of Berkhamsted and long-lost trades.
