Berko Trio Make Splash at County Champs

Rafe Dewi and Sam of Berkhamsted Swimming Club

Three best friends who swim for Berkhamsted Swimming Club won an incredible 25 medals (including 15 Golds) at the recent Hertfordshire County Swimming Championships.

Twelve-year-olds Sam Childs and Dewi Fordyce joined 13-year-old Rafe Lawson to win the haul over four days of swimming, Dewi broke five longstanding Counties records.

The boys were so successful, other competitors continually asked them about their training schedule, and even what they eat for breakfast!

The boys train up to six times a week at Knox Johnston Sports Centre and Berkhamsted Leisure Centre. Both Dewi and Rafe are now hoping to make it to the Nationals this year.

Head coach Doug Hose says their success is testament to their hard work in the pool. ‘The boys all work hard and enjoy themselves at training. They all show great potential. The club welcomes all keen swimmers from age eight, and is always looking for new swimmers.’

Rafe’s ambition is to compete as an Olympian – following in the footsteps of Adam Peaty. Dewi is also a keen rugby player, and has to split his time between the rugby field and the pool.
