Best Dressed Shop Window Competition

Living Magazines Berkhamsted Best Dressed Window winners

The Berkhamsted Festival of Light was held this year on Sunday 26 November. Every year Berkhamsted Citizens Association (BCA) presents a silver cup and certificates for the winner(s) and runners up of the Best Dressed Christmas Shop Window competition.

This is the twenty-sixth year that they have been sponsoring the competition. It is open to all shops, and other premises with windows that are suitable for decoration, along the High Street (from Highfield Road to Cross Oak Road and including Lower Kings Road, Castle Street, etc.).

There is no stipulated theme but, particularly in recent years when many shopkeepers are going through challenging times, in judging the windows originality and recycling have been taken into consideration rather than simply the amount of money spent. This means that smaller shops and charity shops are not at a disadvantage. Judges look for eye-catching displays which will attract passers-by. Judging took place on Thursday 23 November and the cup and certificates were presented at the Festival of Light.

The standard of decoration in the shop windows this year was very high and the judges decided to give the cup jointly to three shops. These were:

  • The Hospice of St Francis
  • Woods
  • &Quirky

Certificates of commendation were given to:

  • Vinegar Hill
  • Peter John
  • David Paul
  • Berkhamsted Eyecare
