Hertfordshire residents will don their walking gear, lace up their boots, and unite against dementia when Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk returns to Watford this Autumn.
Hundreds of Alzheimer’s Society supporters will put their best foot forward at Cassiobury Park on 11 September 2021 alongside family, friends, and colleagues to raise money for the charity. Supporters can also opt to walk on their own, with loved ones or four-legged friends, on the paths, pavements and parks in a location of their choosing throughout September.
By marching out in support of Alzheimer’s Society, walkers will raise crucial funds to help the charity reach more people through its vital services, like the Dementia Connect support line, which have been used more than five million times since March 2020.
Claire Stockwell-Lance, Area Manager for Essex and Hertfordshire, said: ‘I am so glad that we will be returning to Cassiobury Park this September, where hundreds of people from across Hertfordshire and beyond will unite against dementia to improve the lives of people living with the condition.
‘Over a year since the pandemic began, people with dementia in the region are still bearing the brunt of coronavirus and demand for our services is still increasing. As well as people with dementia being the worst hit in terms of deaths, our Dementia Connect support line has been inundated with calls about the impact of social isolation, with family carers in complete despair and even people with dementia losing the ability to speak as their cognitive abilities decline.
‘Following a devastating year for people living with dementia and their families, we are calling on everyone to put their best foot by completing a Memory Walk this Autumn, either by joining us at Cassiobury Park or taking on a virtual walk in a location of their choosing.’
Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walks are a great way to help support people affected by dementia who need us more than ever before. You can sign up to the Watford Memory Walk on 11 September or complete your own walk however you choose on your own, with your household and even with your four-legged friends. There is also a special Memory Walk taking place to celebrate World Alzheimer’s Day on Sunday 20 September. Visit memorywalk.org.uk for more details.
