Black History Month at Bucks County Museum

Living Magazines Black History Month - Bucks County Museum

Thanks to Ann Alphonse, Trustee at Bucks County Museum for this update

Like all cultural organisations across the country we have had to adapt our planned events during the pandemic, and although the museum may currently be closed we have been able to recognise Black History Month this year by sharing some great stories from our Afro-Caribbean community.

The national theme for Black History Month this year is focused on ‘Women’s Achievements’ and we are very pleased to be able to present contributions from Stephanie Boyce, Vice-President of the Law Society and Claudia Myrie and Elisah Jobbins, the co-founders of JMV Homes Limited, based in Aylesbury.

Contributions have also been made by members of our community who travelled to the UK during 1950-1960 and who have very kindly shared their life stories, experiences, and contributions to the wider community of Aylesbury.

Click here to read all of these wonderful stories.

In 2021 our new Discover Bucks Galleries will be opened and include a People’s Gallery, which will help us to tell more stories about the lives of the people of Bucks from all our different communities.

We look forward to welcoming you to spooky Halloween family fun activities this October and the Bucks Art Society art fair this November. More details to come.
