Boxmoor Virtual Marathon

Residents of Dacorum are being encouraged to get active in the run-up to the Olympic Games, by participating in a virtual marathon. Starting from when the Olympic Flame arrives in France on 8 May and finishing in time for the Opening Ceremony in July, the idea is to run, cycle, scoot, wheel, walk or  swim your way to completing the 42km. Take your time and do a few kilometres a day, or race to the finish line in a week. It’s up to you!

We know that getting outside and being active is good for our mental and physical health. Sometimes we  just need a bit of extra motivation to help us do it! A virtual marathon is a great way of motivating  yourself and/or your children to get outside. And who doesn’t love the idea of getting a medal at the end,  that you can wear when the Olympic Games commence!

Boxmoor Virtual Marathon is being organised by two secondary students from Hemel Hempstead  School. They are raising funds to volunteer on a wildlife conservation and community development  project with Camps International. Local small business Boxmoor Yoga is supporting the event, and local  charity One Impossible Thing is also involved as the charity partner. Any money raised through donations and sponsorship of participants will go towards the work they do in Dacorum. They collect  preloved sports shoes and redistribute them for free to those who need a little extra help.

For further information and to register for the event go to: boxmooryoga.wixsite.com/boxmoor-marathon. It’s £10 to enter and you also have the option to buy a t-shirt. You can also follow on  Facebook and Instagram @boxmoorvirtualmarathon.
