Bricklayer’s Arms Wins County Dining Pub of the Year

Living Magazines Bricklayer's Arms Hemel Hempstead

The accolades keep coming for the Bricklayer’s Arms in Hemel Hempstead. Fresh from the success of making it into the AA’s Pub Guide 2020, readers of the Good Pub Guide have named it as the one that stands out from the crowd in the whole of Hertfordshire.

The Good Pub Guide is the foremost of all Pub Guides selecting the best 5,000 of some 60,000 pubs in the United Kingdom, recommended by the reader. The Good Pub Guide selects Pubs for ‘qualities that set them apart – perhaps
for their consistently good food, superlative beers, hospitality, character, setting, history or other attributes.’

In the 2020 Guide, The Bricklayers Arms is one of only a handful of pubs in the whole of the United Kingdom to be privileged and awarded County Dining Pub of The Year. The beautiful, ivy clad, 18th century pub located down the leafy lanes of Flaunden Hertfordshire, maintains its annual presence in the Michelin Guide and Rosette for its ‘culinary excellence’ and is the present Tourist Board’s ‘Visit Herts’ Dining Pub of the Year.

Proprietor, Alvin Michaels responsed: ‘It has been nearly 16 years since we purchased the Bricklayers Arms. We have recently heavily invested in new infrastructure with the rebuilding and extending our kitchens ready for new challenges that lay ahead.

‘I am extremely proud that we have won this award for the fifth and an unprecedented third consecutive time.

‘We continue to strive and work hard on our quality and consistency of our menu created by Claude Paillet, Miroslav Schelling and the kitchen brigade, bringing the freshest of local ingredients.

‘It’s a joint effort with our managers Matt Jackson and Laura Bradshaw, their team who offer consistently good, professional and friendly service. They look after our great selection of quality local ales and extensive wine list to suit all budgets and tastes.

‘I wish to give a big thanks to those readers who had the time to write to The Good Pub Guide and recommend The Bricklayer’s Arms for this prestigious award.’
