Ceilidh supports young carers

A Scottish country dancing club is kicking up its heels to raise funds for young carers in Herts.

The Berkhamsted Strathspey & Reel Club will hold two events in October to raise funds for its charity of the year, Carers in Hertfordshire and its Young Carers Service.

The charity supports carers of all ages in Hertfordshire – people providing unpaid assistance to someone close to them with an illness, disability or other care needs. The Young Carers Service supports young people aged up to 18 who have a caring role, helping them to have their voices heard, follow their ambitions and enjoy much-needed breaks from their responsibilities. The service also provides wellbeing support and social activities.

Almost 3,400 young carers are currently registered with the charity, and funds raised from the dances will help it continue its vital work.

A ceilidh on Saturday 10 October is open for all to attend. Live music will be provided by Ian Robertson, an MC will guide everyone through the steps, and club members will dance with those needing a partner. No experience is necessary, just some comfortable shoes to dance in.

The ceilidh runs from 7.30pm until 10pm at Adeyfield Community Centre in Hemel Hempstead. Tickets are £15, which includes a light snack at the interval, with bring your own drinks. Tickets available from Simon at treasurer@berkhamstedreelclub.org or call 01494 782695.

Club members will also attend a charity evening on Tuesday 13 October. This is an annual event, combining dance and a shared supper with raising funds.

The club holds other dance events throughout the dance year (which runs from September to June) including a day school and a Highland ball.
