Dacorum Borough Council are hosting The Platinum Party in the Park on Thursday 2 June in Gadebridge Park to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

This year, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, a series of events and initiatives are taking place across the borough over the four-day weekend.

The weekend will kick off with the Platinum Party in the Park – a free live event in Gadebridge Park. The event will be hosted by actor and comedian Andre Vincent. During the day there will be performances from Gobstoppers and Joanna Bordon Dance Group as well as live music from Glee Club, Ashlea Lauren, Vanessa Hastings and Uke Ellington & the Bandits.

There will be lots of free entertainment for families with balloon modelling, face painting, magicians and caricaturists. Favourite local food vans will also be at the event to feed the hungry crowds with Mama’s Mexican, The Crepe Stop, Dough with the Flow and Noviellos Ice Cream while Mad Squirrel Beer Cruiser and the Little Italy Bar will be on hand for those looking to raise a glass to the Queen.

As the event moves into the evening comedians Howard Read (Radio 4, Horrible Histories), Laura Lexx (Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week), Jonny Awsum (Britain’s Got Talent) will be welcomed to the stage before the final performance from band Too Hard to Handle. The event will end with the lighting of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon and a firework finale.

Councillor Julie Banks, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services at Dacorum Borough Council, said: ‘This year marks a special year celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and we are bringing a packed programme of events over the long Bank Holiday weekend so that the community has plenty of opportunities to all get together and celebrate.

‘The exciting programme includes the Platinum Party in the Park, Trooping of the Colour, a tree planting for the Queen’s Green Canopy, lighting the Jubilee beacon and a live screening of the events taking place at Buckingham Palace. I hope to see many of you there.’
