Charity walk through capital raises over £73,000
Over 300 people took strides that matter at the annual London Bridges Walk in aid of Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care earlier this month. The popular charity walk saw 330 people sign up to tackle either five or ten miles through the capital, with a whopping £73,000 raised by their efforts.
The money raised will enable Rennie Grove Peace to provide care and support for people living with a progressive life-limiting illness within Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The hospice care charity provides support from the point of diagnosis with a progressive life-limiting illness through services such as The Smile Support Hub which has just launched at Grove House, in partnership with Say it with a Smile.
The new dementia support hub offers a warm, welcoming space for people living with dementia or memory impairment, alongside their families and carers. Hosted at Grove House in St Albans, the monthly Smile Support Hub will bring people together for live music, themed social activities, and plenty of time to connect. Volunteers from both charities will be on hand at each session to help everyone feel comfortable, supported and included.
Emma Stewart, Events Manager, at Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, says: ‘This year’s London Bridges Walk was another fantastic event and it wouldn’t have been possible without the 330 people who laced up their boots and clocked up the miles to support hospice care. Many people associate hospice care only with the end of life but our services such as The Smile Support Hub are here for local people from the moment they are diagnosed with a progressive life-limiting illness, to help them live well with their illness.
‘If you missed out on the London Bridges Walk but feel inspired to put your best foot forward and support hospice care, our Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge is now taking bookings for September!’
