Organisers of Tring’s annual music festival, Chilfest, launch a series of outdoor cinema events this weekend.

Following the difficult decision to cancel the main festival, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown measures, Steve Butcher and his team have pulled together nine weekends of alternative entertainment for local film lovers. The beautiful Pendley Manor’s Meadow will be transformed into an outdoor cinema every weekend from now until mid-September.

The first Chilfest Outdoor Cinema weekend kicked off with Grease, on Friday 17 July, Rocket Man on Saturday 18 July, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Sunday 19 July. Current and future listings can be found on their website.

These shows take place in the evening, but there will also be some family friendly matinees scheduled before the final September weekend. All ages will love seeing Toy Story, The Lion King or Paddington whilst soaking up summer vibes.

The audience will enjoy viewing an enormous 10m x 4m screen and high quality audio will be played through personal wireless headphones. There are a range of ticket options available, including a Premium Ticket which comes with a deckchair and popcorn.

Tickets are on sale now at www.chilfest-cinema.co.uk and for future weekends film titles and tickets are released each Monday.

All the required social-distancing, health, safety and hygiene measures will be in place for these events.

Steve Butcher, Chilfest Director, is really pleased to be bringing some events to Tring’s summer calendar, ‘We’ve worked hard to ensure we can provide the best possible experience for all our visitors. It’s been a challenging time for my business and my employees, but this event series gives us some hope for the industry and has certainly been keeping us busy! We’ve done everything possible to ensure everyone is safe and happy. Chilfest Outdoor Cinema is going to be great fun for all the family!’

There will also be food and drink on offer such as hot dogs, pizzas, a bar offering wine, lager and craft beer, ice cream and of course there will be plenty of popcorn!

Just a handful of the classic films to expect over future shows include: Dirty Dancing, Back To The Future, Quadrophenia, Yesterday, Jaws and Blade Runner.

Local businesses have also jumped at the chance to advertise on the big screen. Isalie Catering, Evans Denham, Pendley Manor, The Home Office, Zest Yoga, Tring Tornadoes, Birth & Beyond, Anglo Dutch and Tring Brewery are amongst those whose adverts will be shown before and after movies during the summer.
