Chilterns announced as new location for Race the Sun series
The rolling hills and hidden valleys of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are set to become the battleground for a brand-new national sports event. Action Medical Research has revealed that Saturday 10 July 2027, will mark the debut of Race the Sun Chilterns – a fresh addition to the charity’s renowned adventure series.
The unique ‘adventure triathlon’ format requires teams of two or four to stick together as they cycle, hike, and paddle across a brand-new custom route, trying to conquer the course before the sun goes down. While the specific route details remain a closely guarded secret, participants can expect winding forest bike trails, steep ridge-line hikes, and a flat-water paddle on The Thames, showcasing the very best of what the Chilterns has to offer.
As a completely new event for 2027, organizers are calling on local sports clubs, corporate teams, and fitness fanatics to secure their spots early and set the local course records.
The Chilterns debut is a cornerstone of the charity’s 2027 goal for Race the Sun to raise £1.174 million. For over 70 years, Action Medical Research has funded vital medical breakthroughs, including helping to beat polio, developing standard prenatal ultrasound technology, and current research into childhood cancers.

Watching people work together to cross the line before sunset is unforgettable, and the money raised will change children’s lives.’
The event is supported in-kind by Garmin and is fully SheRACES accredited. Registration is officially open at £120 for a team of two / £240 for a team of four, with a fundraising target of £500 per person.
