Church lights up the night
New Mill Baptist Church became a beacon of light in New Road, Tring, during the last week of October.
Volunteers created coloured tissue paper designs, reminiscent of stained glass, to appear in the church windows after dark. Once the lights were turned on, passers-by were treated to artwork featuring everything from hearts, butterflies and fish, to a lighthouse, astronauts and dancers.
The Reverend Jackie Buie told Tring Living: ‘The Streets of Light project aims to get people involved countrywide with illuminations that are all about love, hope and light. It was started in 2017 in Sheffield as an alternative for children and adults to be involved with at this time of year, when others have put out more spooky images.
‘We joined in last year with our first attempt to fill our many church windows with bright images, and this year we have done the same. We also offered free refreshments and sweets for any children who were out visiting local homes on Halloween for trick or treat. Because our little church is tucked away down a residential street, we want to show we are active within the community whenever we can.’
