A charity supporting local groups that address social need across Hertfordshire, including domestic abuse, food and fuel poverty, debt, mental health concerns and social isolation, has been chosen as Hertfordshire Constabulary’s first ever charity of the year.

Chief Constable Andy Prophet personally chose Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF) as the constabulary’s charity for 2026 having visited HCF and hearing first-hand about its work.

He explained: ‘When I visited Hertfordshire Community Foundation and heard about the fantastic support they provide to community groups and charities across Hertfordshire, I knew I want to do something to help.

‘HCF funds projects helping some of the most vulnerable people in the county so it is clear to see how their work supports our work, supporting people affected by crime as well as addressing issues that may result in people turning to crime.

‘Throughout the coming year, when we host events like our family day or need an excuse for a cake baking competition, I hope we can raise much-needed funds for HCF. It’s a first for us to have a chosen charity for the year, so I look forward to us boosting charity funds as well as ‘Team Herts’ morale with some fun fundraising schemes.’

Paul Robin, Chief Executive Officer of Hertfordshire Community Foundation, said: ‘We are incredibly grateful to Hertfordshire Constabulary for choosing Hertfordshire Community Foundation as their beneficiary charity for 2026.

‘The funds raised will make a real difference to local people facing some of the toughest challenges in our communities, while also strengthening the vital small grassroots charities that support them every day.

‘Many of the organisations we fund work closely with those affected by crime or help address the underlying issues that can lead to it, playing an essential role in building safer, more resilient communities across Hertfordshire.

‘We very much look forward to supporting Hertfordshire Constabulary’s fundraising initiatives wherever possible and are excited about the positive impact this partnership will have for the county.’

Since inception in 1988, HCF has awarded more than £35 million in grants to local charities, community groups and families in crisis across the county. These grants are funded by donations from local individuals, families and organisations wishing to support the communities of Hertfordshire and wanting to make Hertfordshire a better place, for everyone.
