Council Invests in New Seating for Hemel Storm

Hemel Storm basketball fans will benefit from new, improved stands at Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre.

Dacorum Borough Council has been working with Hemel Storm and Everyone Active to build new seating at the Hemel sports centre where the club hold their home games.

The council has invested £112,000 in the new bleachers which has increased the crowd capacity for national league basketball games to 639.

While the stands are being refurbished there will be restricted capacity for Storm’s first two league games.

Hemel Storm Chairman Tony Humphrey said: ‘After a busy summer building a fantastic team, this news is the icing on the cake for the growing number of Storm fans. Our growing support from across the Dacorum area will love this new and increased capacity for our home games. We all appreciate the new investment made by Dacorum Borough Council and for the support we have received from Everyone Active; both organisations are key partners of Storm and we couldn’t be more grateful. We intend to make it a special occasion when these new seats are in use for the first time in November.’

Cllr Julie Banks, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: ‘One of our priorities as a council is to increase the opportunities for local residents to be inspired and engage with physical activity and fitness, so we are delighted to work with Hemel Storm to improve their offering to fans. The new stands will mean more fans can attend home games and support their local basketball team.’

Hemel Storm are semi-professional and compete in National Basketball League Division 1.
