Dacorum Borough Council has been awarded £6.1 million of Government Warm Homes grants.

£2.3 million of the grant is from the Government Warm Homes: Local Grant. Eligible home owners and those in privately rented homes will be able to apply for funding from April 2025 to carry out vital energy performance upgrades and the installation of low-carbon heating systems in their homes.

This could include solar panels, insulation, air source heat pumps and heating controls. These improvements will help reduce energy bills, cut carbon emissions, and support our community in moving towards a more sustainable future.

The remaining £3.8 Million grant funding is from Warm Homes: Social Housing Wave 3.

This funding, which Dacorum Borough Council will match fund, will help to deliver a three-year programme to bring 400 council homes up to EPC Band C through a combination of solar PV, low carbon heating systems and improved insulation.

The measures will reduce energy bills for tenants, at the same time as lowering carbon emissions to support the Council’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Surveys are due to begin from April 2025 and work completed over the next three years.

Cllr Caroline Smith-Wright, Portfolio Holder for People and Transformation including Climate and Emergency at Dacorum Borough Council, said: ‘I’m delighted that we have been granted this vital funding to help improve the energy efficiency of local homes. This investment will make a real difference to residents, helping to create warmer, more sustainable homes while reducing energy costs. It’s a fantastic step towards a greener, healthier future for our community.’

Cllr Simy Dhyani, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Property Services at Dacorum Borough Council, said: ‘Securing this funding through our successful bid for Warm Homes is another step towards improving the quality and efficiency of our housing. My priority is to ensure tenants have warm, affordable, and sustainable homes. These vital upgrades will not only reduce energy bills but also enhance comfort and long-term savings for our residents, reinforcing our commitment to a decent homes future where every resident benefits from a warm and energy-efficient home.’

Dacorum Borough Council will be sharing details shortly on how residents can apply for the Warm Homes: Local Grant or for more information email homeenergy@dacorum.gov.uk.
