Dacorum Borough Council has appointed six advisors to support people and businesses in the borough to continue to adhere to the COVID-19 rules.

Their role is to boost awareness of the regulations to help slow the spread of coronavirus. They will be encouraging people to follow the rules – for example, to wear face coverings and social distance.

The advisors will not be enforcing the rules, but will support the police and council officers from the Environmental and Community Protection team, who do have the powers to enforce non-compliance.

The appointments were made after funding was received from the COVID-19 Health Protection Board with the aim to help  businesses manage queues, support social distancing in crowded public areas and remind people to wear a face covering when necessary.

The new advisors will:

  • Be on hand in areas of high footfall, including town centres, transport hubs and parks in order to help reinforce the importance of adhering to COVID-19 regulations and provide information, guidance and reassurance
  • Visit premises and deliver COVID compliance advice positively, document any findings and highlight any concerns to the Environmental Health Team
  • Answer queries from residents and businesses regarding COVID-19 regulations and give advice

Cllr Julie Banks, Dacorum Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: ‘Our wider environmental health and licensing teams are in the front line of tackling coronavirus, carrying out inspections, explaining the rules and encouraging businesses and individuals to follow the guidelines. The new advisors will support this team and be an important asset to the community.

‘We know that it will be particularly important to further support people who will want to visit shops and businesses providing essential goods and services, in a COVID-secure way and the advisors will enable us to help people to feel safe doing so. I appeal to all of our residents, visitors, workers and students to continue following the rules to help reduce the spread of the virus.’
