Living Magazines Dacorum Summer of Fun

With the start of the school holidays, many families will be looking for things to do over the summer. Dacorum Borough Council has put together a ‘Summer of Fun’ programme, providing details of free and low-cost events and activities being delivered by the Council and partners including Hemel Hempstead Business Improvement District.

There are a wide range of activities on offer, just some of the highlights include:

Birds of Prey

When: Monday 24 July 2023 from 11am-3pm at the Rainbow Stage, Marlowes
What: Come and see the ever-popular Berkshire Birds of Prey, with a selection of owls, falcons and hawks.
Cost: Free – or pay a small donation if you wish to hold a bird.

Climbing Wall

When: Saturday 29 July 2023 from 10am-4pm at the Rainbow Stage, Marlowes
What: Have a go on the giant 18ft high mobile climbing wall. Suitable for adults and children, recommended age/height of users: six years and over.
Cost: Free
This activity is being part funded from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Surf Simulator

When: Friday 4 August 2023 from 10am-4pm at the Rainbow Stage, Marlowes
What: Experience the sensation of riding a real wave without getting wet! Suitable for adults and children, recommended age/height of users: 10 years or over OR 1.2m tall.
Cost: Free
This activity is being part funded from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Street Velodrome

When: Thursday 10 August to Sunday 13 August 2023 from 10am-4pm at Market Square, Hemel Hempstead
What: Whether you are a seasoned cyclist, or an absolute beginner, the pop-up velodrome promises to be lots of fun. All equipment, including bikes and protective gear is provided.
Cost: Free
This activity is being part funded from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Dacorum also has a fantastic range of facilities for children, which will be available over the summer months. These include:

  • Four adventure playgrounds – with a variety of play structures, swings, and slides. Details about each playground’s summer activity programme are available on the Council’s website.
  • Beautiful parks with a range of age-appropriate play equipment and safe play areas.
  • Gadebridge Splash Park – offering fountains, jets and water features to play and cool off.
  • Four skate parks – providing the perfect opportunity to grab your skateboard, scooter, rollerblades or BMX and practice some tricks.

Cllr Carole Weston, Portfolio Holder for People and Transformation, said: ‘It can be challenging to keep the family entertained over the summer holidays – so I am delighted that we have so many free and low-cost activities on offer in Dacorum. From enjoying the play equipment in our lovely parks, to trying out the pop-up Street Velodrome, there really is something for everyone!’
