Derek and Janet are Tring’s Diamonds
Recently Derek and Janet Townsend celebrated their 60th (diamond) wedding anniversary with their daughters Katherine and Susan, grandchildren, family and friends. They celebrated this momentous occasion with a meal at Shendish Manor in Apsley and also received an acknowledgement from the Queen (see photo). The couple have lived in Tring for the past 56 years and have been an integral part of the Tring community for most of that time.
Derek was a member of Dacorum Borough Council and Tring Town Council for 40 years; he had been a Mayor for both of these Councils at various times during this service. Also, during this time Derek (with Janet always helping him) also supported many local community groups as President and/or Patron, such organisations as Dacorum Alzheimer’s Group and Chilterns MS Centre. In 2001 he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire and when he retired from Dacorum Borough Council in 2011, he was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Dacorum for all his hard work, support and service.
Now they are both retired they have the opportunity to spend time with their family and friends.
