EcoBerko Update

EcoBerko litter pickers

For those not already aware, EcoBerko is a local group, both a Friends of the Earth Climate Action Group and a Transition Town, focusing on bringing the community together to help you do more than you can as an individual, without waiting on the government.

The group’s aim is to see Berkhamsted, Northchurch and the surrounding area become a thriving sustainable community, powered by clean energy, with nature at its heart.

They recently brought us up to date with some of their latest projects:

  • Energy: Put solar panels on Ashlyns and looking to do more, plus helping people reduce their energy use and bills.
  • Habitats & nature: Getting a project started on nature corridors, looking at ponds, hedgerows and increasing biodiversity; helping on butterfly conservation and riverfly monitoring.
  • St Mary’s Community Garden: Helping a project get going to convert the disused tarmac between St Mary’s School and the main street into a green community space.
  • Green events: Helping events in the town reduce waste and recycle.
  • Plus a lot more: Climate conversations, strategy and targets, communications, becoming a charity.

Get Involved

If you’d like to get involved, EcoBerko is seeking volunteers, or you can attend Eco Drinks at The Bull from 7.30pm on the third Tuesday of every month. For further information, visit ecoberko.uk.
