Empire Cinema Coming to the Marlowes

Living Magazines Empire Cinema at The Marlowes

The Marlowes Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead has announced that a new Empire Cinema will be coming to the town, after signing a 25-year lease with the UK’s leading independent cinema chain.

The agreement comes after The Marlowes secured planning permission in 2018 from Dacorum Borough Council to add an extension above the existing centre for a new 9-screen cinema. Construction work on the new premises will start in late 2019 and is set to open in early 2021.

The opening of the cinema is a central element of Capital & Regional’s, owners of the Shopping Centre, plans for the town with the company expecting to invest over £15 million in the next two years on the Cinema and further projects. Upgraded customer facilities have already been delivered, including a new state-of-the-art family area and toilets, as well as a new roof, full-height glazed shop fronts and an external refurbishment. A family zone, including a soft play area, will be opened in mid May 2019 and more dining options will be brought into the scheme.

Vince Williams, General Manager of The Marlowes, commented: ‘It’s fantastic news that we will be bringing Empire Cinema in to the town and can start work on building a new leisure hub for the community. We’ve listened carefully to local people in recent years to establish what facilities they want in Hemel Hempstead and we’re delighted that, thanks to the support of Dacorum Borough Council and Capital and Regional, the leisure options in the town are continuing to expand. We look forward to unveiling the facility in 2021!’
