Hemel Hempstead MP, Sir Mike Penning, has welcomed new figures released by the Office of National Statistics, which show that employment is at a record high and that nationally wages are rising at the fastest pace in almost ten years.
The figures show 825 unemployed in the Hemel Hempstead constituency for October 2018, compared to 2,122 in May 2010. The figure is down 125 compared to October 2017 and 15 lower than September 2018. In the 18-25 age group the figure is 20 lower than the same month last year.
Sir Mike said: ‘This is great news for the town. More and more people are getting up in the morning to go to work and in return having the financial security of a regular pay packet.
‘With wage growth now at its fastest for nearly ten years and tax cuts announced in the Budget, this is all good news for local people and families.’
