Lyn Drummond watched The Country Superstars at Berkhamsted’s Centenary Theatre, part of Berkhamsted School in King’s Road, for one night only on Friday 19 December.

Y’all. Just been to a fabulous night of double takes. Is that Dolly Parton singing Islands in the Stream with Kenny Rogers? And John Denver urging a packed audience to yearn for Country Roads? Elvis and the melting tones of Blue Christmas, Shania Twain, the queen of country pop, and Patsy Cline, belting out her crossover hits, Crazy and Walking After Midnight?

What a night of country superstars on 19 December at Berkhamsted’s Centenary Theatre, the many roles taken by a handful of super talented vocal impersonators.

The Country Superstars show featured, as she has been described, Europe’s number one Dolly Parton Tribute Sarah Jayne – endorsed by the real Dolly Parton – with award-winning vocal impersonator,  Andy Crust (also Sarah Jayne’s husband) and their band.

They took this mesmerised audience – including me – through the history of country music while paying homage to some of its legendary entertainers.

Billed by the Centenary Theatre as Tennessee Country Christmas, it was a soaring end to an outstanding year of entertainment at the theatre with much more in store for 2026, including Taylor Fever, a tribute to Taylor Swift which hits the stage on 23 January.

The theatre was built in 1988 for the Centenary celebrations of the founding of the Girls’ School (1888).  Originally called Centenary Hall, it was extended in 2007 to provide additional drama and music rooms and a green room which is a lounge for performers. Some people may remember coming to the theatre for the Pepper shows which were staged there until 2014.

The theatre has 495 seats, with a bar and recently began operating as a commercial arts venue, welcoming a variety of touring productions – music, dance, drama and comedy to name a few.
