Festive Thai Treat
The Festive Season Menu at Berkhamsted’s Giggling Squid has sugar, spice and all things nice…
Christmas parties and meals out are lovely, but after a while, opting for the turkey dinner can become a little tedious. Luckily, Thai favourite The Giggling Squid, in Berkhamsted High Street, promises to spice up your Christmas meal with a very special menu.
The Festive Season menu is booked in advance and includes starters such as Crispy Ruby Duck (shredded duck on a bed of crispy red noodles), Spicy Kiss Chicken Wings and Christmas Candy Pork with Pineapple.
We opted for the Veggie Goodie Bowls, which were surprisingly full of flavour with sweet & sour, satay and chili flavors. Deliciously flavourful for a vegetarian dish. The Mushroom & Papaya Bang Bang was also flavourful, with papaya, a hint of lime and satay sauce.
Main courses include Golden Roast Duck Curry, Saucy Pork Cheek & Jackfruit and Festive Sticky Chicken.
We both chose the King Prawn and Bean Curry – complete with a crispy, tempura-battered Cha Plu leaf. It was delicious teamed with an accompanying pot of sticky rice – but be prepared for the spicy kick!
After a break to enjoy the surroundings (the decor is very natural and calming) including a view to the outside area with very pretty lights sparkling in the cold night air, we devoured our desserts.
The Pattaya Mess is an eastern variation on Eton mess, with sweet pandan and vanilla creams, matcha and taro jelly cubes, berries and toasted coconut flakes, Very moreish! The Melting Chocolate dessert is perfect for those who like to end their meal with a cocoa hit. The melting dessert was teamed with vanilla ice cream to cut through the chocolatey richness.
