Thai Night at The Robin Hood, Tring
Chef JJ has been running the regular Sunday night Thai Night at The Robin Hood in Tring for six years, and it’s become a real success! We thought it was about time we went along to try it out.
I took my husband and two kids. When we arrived, the pub was pleasantly busy but not crowded. We took a table in the back and sat down to have a look at the menu.
Now my boys, who are nine and 11, are not the most adventurous of eaters, but they liked the look of the prawn tempura for starters, and then one of them chose Pad Thai with prawns while the other chose Kao Pad, a kind of egg fried rice, also with prawns. My husband Tom chose Gang Kiew Wan, a green curry, and I opted for Jasmine rice with Pad Graproa – vegetables fried with basil and chilli.
I was warned mine would be spicy – and it definitely was! It was very tasty though. The kids devoured the prawn tempura and vegetable spring rolls we ordered for starters, and then tucked into their mains. Although the portions were too big for them – they do offer half-size portions for kids – they both really enjoyed it and said they wanted to come back next week. Tom said the green curry was delicious too.
JJ took August off to visit her sister who runs a Thai restaurant in France, and is planning to introduce some new ideas this autumn, including a vegan/ vegetarian menu with tofu, and a children’s menu. She loves cooking and hopes to one day open her own restaurant – but for now I urge you to go along and support her by enjoying a delicious Thai meal one Sunday!
