Free compost giveaway to Dacorum residents

To celebrate International Compost Awareness Week (5-11 May), Dacorum Borough Council is giving away free compost to residents to use on their gardens.
Anyone who lives in Dacorum can come to Cupid Green Depot, Redbourn Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7BA, on Sunday 12 May between 9am – 12am to pick up some free compost.
You must bring your own empty compost or rubble bags and a shovel to collect your compost. The compost will NOT be pre-bagged as with previous years.
The compost will be limited to two bags per vehicle and given away on a first-come, first-served basis – so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. The event may end early if compost runs out.
Last year, by putting grass cuttings, leaves, twigs, flowers and weeds into their green-lidded bins, Dacorum’s residents diverted nearly 10,000 tonnes of garden waste from landfill so that it could be recycled into compost instead. Biogen are the company responsible for converting the contents of the green-lidded bin into this nutrient-rich compost which will be on offer at the giveaway.
Compost has a range of benefits, such as; improving soil quality, growing healthy plants, reducing the use of fertiliser and pesticides and is even an effective method of reducing harmful greenhouse gases.
