Golf Day Tees Up Close to £13,000 for Charity

Living Magazines Chilterns MS Centre Golf Day 2023 - Prizegiving - Garretts Geezers

Almost one hundred golfers descended on the stunning Stocks Golf Club in Aldbury on Friday 9 June for the Chilterns MS Centre’s annual golf day which raised almost £13,000 for the Wendover-based charity.

It was a hot day at the picturesque Hertfordshire golf club but the players were well refreshed after enjoying a breakfast in the clubhouse before moving on to the course for some good-natured competition. Although, for many players, it was more about the sheer enjoyment of playing on a course they normally cannot access.

The Centre was delighted to welcome pro golfer, Alex Saary, to the course to run a beat the pro competition on the Par 3 twelfth hole. Alex challenged each player to get closer to the pin than him from the tee and quite a few did but the competition still raised £900.

Once everyone had completed their round and the scores were counted and adjusted for handicaps, the team victory went to Garrett’s Geezers led by team captain, Steve Garrett, while the individual winner was Sarah Hayward-Cook.

The winners were presented their trophies at a special prize-giving ceremony after the event which also included a barbecue, raffle and silent auction to help raise funds for the Centre.

‘Once again we were blessed with glorious weather for what is such a lovely event, I really enjoyed seeing so many happy people out on the course,’ said Stella Kubale, Head of Fundraising at the Chilterns MS Centre. ‘We know times are tough right now so I feel incredibly fortunate that so many people are happy to come out and support us.’

The Chilterns MS Centre would like to thank EIC Insurance for sponsoring the event and helping to make it happen.

‘EIC were proud to support the Centre once again as we’re always happy to be associated with such a worthwhile organisation,’ said Keith Anderson, Executive Broker at EIC Insurance and competitor at the golf day. ‘It was brilliantly organised as ever and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.’

The Chilterns MS Centre provides treatments and services to people with MS, Parkinson’s and stroke survivors, empowering them to live life to the full.
