Great Big Green Week – get involved!
The 2026 Great Big Green Week runs from 6-14 June and is a celebration of community action to protect nature and tackle climate change.
There are nature hunts, sustainable gardening tips at Woods Garden Centre in the High Street, green-themed stories at Berkhamsted Library, and special green quiz rounds at Berkhamsted’s favourite pubs (The Bull on Mon 8 June; The Goat on Tues 9 June; and The Rising Sun on Thurs 11 June). Friday 5 June
11.30am-3.30pm – Butterfly emergency stall
Outside Waitrose. The Butterfly Conservation charity will be available to answer questions and offer tips on attracting butterfies.
Saturday 6 June
10am-2.30pm – Berkhamsted Eco Fair
Civic Centre. Bee expert Alan Roberts will display his observation hive. Bring along your Great Big Green Vegan Bake for a chance to win a low-carbon cake-baking hamper.
7pm-9.30pm – The Chilterns’ Unique and Disappearing Wildlife
Northchurch Baptist Church. Join wildlife expert Ian Gamble for this free talk highlighting the variety of plant, animal and insect life that can be found in the area.
Sunday 7 June
10am-1pm – Great Big Nature Hunt
Rectory Lane Cemetery. Discover the array of wildlife in this 3-acre cemetery, enjoy nature-themed crafts and home-made refreshments. tickets.mp/greatbig-nature-hunt

Midday-2pm – Berkhamsted Common walk

4.30pm-6pm – Riverfly survey on the Bulbourne
Join Laura and Claudia from the Chilterns Chalk Streams Project for a fascinating dip into River Bulbourne wildlife. Meet at the Waitrose bridge (What3words: marine.resolves.brothers).
