Great Dragon Adventure at Discover Bucks Museum

Families looking for a memorable summer holiday day out are invited to step into an epic quest at Discover Bucks Museum as The Great Dragon Adventure arrives from 22 July-1 September 2026.
Created especially for children aged 4-9, this brand-new immersive trail transforms a museum visit into a magical adventure packed with challenges, discovery and hands-on play and best of all, it is included free with both Museum admission and Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery and Museum tickets. Children’s tickets start from just £3.
Designed to encourage imagination, movement and exploration, The Great Dragon Adventure takes young adventurers on a quest across the museum to uncover clues, complete challenges and reclaim hidden treasure.
Each family receives a specially designed adventure booklet featuring a trail map and dragon story illustrations to guide them through the experience. The journey begins in the museum’s Georgian Room, where children will discover the dragon’s nest, a giant nest perfect for climbing inside and capturing an unforgettable family photo.
From there, brave adventurers will journey across the museum site taking part in a series of interactive activities including:
- Dragon identification
- Archery practice
- Agility training
- Coin minting
The adventure culminates in an exciting final challenge where children must face a giant dragon and search for hidden gold. Those who complete the quest will uncover the final part of the story and celebrate becoming official Dragon Adventurers.
The Great Dragon Adventure has been designed to create a full day out for families, encouraging visitors to explore everything Discover Bucks Museum has to offer while enjoying moments of play, imagination and adventure together.
Families can also make a full day of it by visiting the much-loved Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, exploring The Saxons immersive exhibition, spending time in the museum gardens, relaxing in the café and browsing the gift shop.
