Hairspray: The Musical – A Joyous, High-Energy Spectacle

Hairspray burst onto the stage at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on Monday night in a whirlwind of colour, energy, and show-stopping performances. This fun-filled production brought the swinging ’60s to life, delivering infectious music, lively choreography, and an uplifting message of inclusivity.
The large and talented cast kept the momentum high, with standout performances across the board. Neil Hurst’s portrayal of Edna Turnblad was both hilarious and heartfelt, while Michelle Ndegwa’s powerhouse vocals as Motormouth Maybelle left the audience spellbound. Joanna Clifton embodied the sharp and scheming Velma Von Tussle with flair, and Declan Egan’s Corny Collins was every bit the slick and charismatic showman. Katie Brace shone in the leading role of Tracy, capturing her boundless enthusiasm and determination with charm and confidence.
From start to finish, Hairspray was a joyous celebration of music, dance, and acceptance – a feel-good production that had the audience dancing in their seats and cheering for more.
The show continues until Saturday 22 February 2025.
