Half Term at Discover Bucks Museum

Discover Bucks Museum is just on your doorstep and only a short walk from Market Square in the historic part of Aylesbury around St Mary’s Church. It’s home to the famous Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, a space bursting with interactive displays and engaging activities inspired by Roald Dahl’s wonderful stories that encourage learning through play. Children can step inside the Giant Peach, explore sound with the BFG and crawl through Fantastic Mr Fox’s tunnel. They can appear in their own drawings on TV and even freeze their own shadows! Come along and explore for yourselves.
Opening for February Half Term there are special Hands-on Science Exhibits in the Bucks Photography Exhibition: experiment with lenses, lightning, luminosity, colour and optics. Also on display are the wonderful photographic entries and competition winners in the photography exhibition.
This February half term, join in exciting family-friendly activities, including Wild Science animal encounters, where you can meet fascinating creatures up close. Get creative with funky frames craft workshops, immerse yourself in interactive storytelling sessions, and explore hands-on exhibits and surprises for all ages. Don’t miss this action-packed week of fun and discovery!

Saturday 15 February – Wild Science Animal Encounters
Meet creatures great and small with this interactive 45-minute animal handling session and then try out a range of animal-themed crafts to take home.
£10 per participant. Non participating adults/infants free.
Timings: 10015-11am, 11.15am-12noon and 12.15]-1pm Suitable for ages 5-11.
Monday 17 February and Tuesday 18 February – Animal Science!
Explore the science behind the weird and wonderful members of the animal kingdom in this hands-on workshop.
£7 per child+1 free adult. £3 for each additional adult
Timings: 10.30-11.30am, 12.30-1.30pm and 2.30-3.30pm Suitable for ages 5-11.
Wednesday 19 February – Funky Frames
Decorate your own animal-themed photo frame and create an animal picture to go inside to celebrate the museum’s photography exhibition.
£5 per participant
Timings: 10am-2.30pm. Suitable for ages 3-11.
Thursday 20 February – Step Into A Story: The Gruffalo
Explore your favourite stories and take part in themed crafts in the first of a series of interactive walk-through stories. Each session lasts approximately one hour. This event is part of the 2025 Aylesbury Children’s Book Festival.
£8 per child
Timings: Multiple sessions available. Suitable for ages 3-7.
Friday 21 February – The Most Enormous Crocodile
Learn about how different animals adapt for their environment through this beloved Roald Dahl classic, enjoy an interactive story session and make your very own predator puppet to take home!
Free with Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery entry.
Timings: 10am-3pm. Suitable for ages 3-10.
Saturday 22 February – Meet the Author: Fabi Santiago
Part of Aylesbury Children’s Book Festival
Join Children’s author and illustrator Fabi Santiago, best known for her picture books Tiger in a Tutu, I really want that Unicorn and My Pet T-rex. In this special interactive session, Fabi will talk about her books and characters and then read from her latest book, Finderella. There will also be a draw-along where Fabi will teach how she draws her characters. Afterwards, have your book signed by Fabi.
Timings: 10.30am – 60 minutes long (including Q&A), followed by public book signing. Suitable for ages 3-8.
