Help shape how Hertfordshire travels tomorrow

Public engagement open until 19 December 2025.

Hertfordshire County Council is inviting residents, organisations and visitors to have their say on the future of transport in the county, as part of the first stage in developing a new Local Transport Plan (LTP).

Transport affects everyone, every day, whether people walk, cycle, wheel, drive or use public transport. This first phase of engagement will help shape a long-term plan to make travel across Hertfordshire safer, more accessible and more sustainable.

The Local Transport Plan will guide how the council and its partners improve roads, cycleways, bus services, rail connections and active travel options to meet the needs of communities, support the local economy and protect the environment.

Cllr Paul Zukowskyj, Executive Member for Environment, Transport and Growth at Hertfordshire County Council said: ‘Together, we can shape a transport system that helps people move around more easily, safely and sustainably. Whether you walk your children to school, take the bus to work, drive for your job or use a wheelchair to get to the shops, we want to hear from you.

‘Your views will help us make Hertfordshire a safer, more accessible and sustainable place to live and work.’

What the plan covers

The draft vision for Hertfordshire’s Local Transport Plan is to deliver a safe, accessible and sustainable transport system for our communities.

It focuses on three key themes:

• Safe – making sure everyone feels secure when travelling and reducing road danger
• Accessible – ensuring transport is reliable, inclusive and easy to use
• Sustainable – supporting greener, healthier ways to travel and protecting nature

Feedback from this stage will help shape the draft Local Transport Plan, which will go out for full public consultation in 2026.
