Hemel launches triathlon
Sportspace will stage Hemel Hempstead’s first ever Triathlon on Sunday 2 October.
The Hemel Hempstead Triathlon will combine a 400m swim (16 lengths of the outdoor pool), an 8km cycle-ride and a 5km run. It is open to anyone, and the distances have been carefully chosen to encourage people who are new to the sport.
Sportspace’s head of sport Amanda Colwill said: ‘We want to run an event that makes triathlons accessible to as many people as possible and hopefully the training sessions in all three disciplines will encourage the community to get involved. It really doesn’t matter if your bike has a basket on the front – if it’s roadworthy, then you can get involved!’
Triathlon participation is certainly on the rise, with Triathlon England citing a 10% increase in membership in 2015. The Hemel Hempstead event is being supported by Triathlon England and by Cliff King, organiser of the successful Berkhamsted Triathlon.
Places are limited, so participants are encouraged to book early.
