Schools in the Hertford, Hatfield and Welwyn areas can apply for a free garden border worth up to £250 to help improve playgrounds and outdoor areas.

Garden on a Roll, which is locally based in Bayford, is looking for five schools to help, by providing its pre-designed garden borders in a box, which include all of the plants and a bio-degradable planting template to create a professionally designed garden border.

The company has a selection of nine border styles including wildlife and sensory options, each containing specially selected plants and an easy to follow planting guide, which is rolled out and planted through, directly into the soil.

Garden on a Roll founder, award winning garden designer Antony Henn, whose family run the recently re-launched Dutch Marketplace in Brookmans Park, is keen to find local schools that have an outdoor area that needs a boost, he said: ‘Now that the schools are fully open again we want to help contribute towards creating a beautiful outdoor space for teachers and pupils to enjoy next year.

‘Autumn is the best time for planting for 2021 and our kits are ideal for getting youngsters involved and more importantly, engaged. The planting process even covers various parts of the curriculum, connecting pupils with nature and learning about different plants. Our kits include a biodegradable planting plan, which shows exactly where to place each variety and plant them: it’s lots of fun and extremely rewarding.’

Each winning school will receive a 5m x 60cm border and a visit from Antony who will provide a session for pupils and teachers covering eco-friendly tips and ways to attract wildlife in their school garden.

Teachers and PTA members interested in entering simply need to email a selection of photos of a neglected area of the school garden or playground and let the team know why they would like to receive a free border to enquiries@gardenonaroll.com.
