Hertfordshire Trading Standards Warns about Cold Callers in Dacorum

Living Magazines neighbourhood watch

Hertfordshire Trading Standards is warning about cold callers who claim to be ringing from the council, wanting to carry out a survey on your home. Fraudsters have been calling residents in Hemel Hempstead this week, trying to obtain personal details, as well as to arrange for a surveyor to visit.

The advice is not to trust any cold caller who contacts you out of the blue, asking for personal information from you. Just tell them to put it in writing and hang up. The council will not ask you for personal details because they will know them already. The council will not cold call you about any works to your home, they will always write first.

Trust your instincts and if the call doesn’t feel right, or if you feel uncomfortable about the details that you’re being asked for, just end the call. If you have given bank details, please contact your bank immediately to stop any payment. If you have made an appointment, please let Trading Standards know via the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline number of 0808 223 1133.
