Dacorum Borough Council residents are being invited to come together to invest in renewable energy, through a group-buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage.

The Solar Together Hertfordshire initiative gives Dacorum’s homeowners the chance to pay a more competitive price for installation, from pre-approved installers. The innovative scheme builds on four years of the highly successful Solar Together programme across the UK, which has resulted in over 7,000 installations to date and helped avoid over 130,000 tonnes of lifetime carbon emissions.

Since Monday 22 August, Dacorum residents have been able to sign up for the group-buying scheme which offers solar panels with optional battery storage and electric vehicle charge points. There is also an option for retrofit battery storage, for residents who have already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate, as well as increase their independence from the grid. It is free to register and there is no obligation to go ahead with an installation.

Dacorum Borough Council are working in partnership with Hemel Garden Communities and other local councils in the Hertfordshire Climate Change and Sustainability Partnership. They’re working with independent experts, iChoosr, to make the transition to clean energy as cost effective and hassle-free as possible.

Cllr Graham Barrett, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services at Dacorum Borough Council, said: ‘This is a great opportunity for our residents to get a good deal from a trusted supplier on solar panels. By investing in solar panels our residents will be able to generate their own electricity and reduce their bills while knowing they are doing their bit to reduce emissions and tackle climate change.’

Bob Lane OBE, Hemel Garden Communities Independent Chair, said: ‘Addressing the impact of climate change is a priority for the Hemel Garden Communities programme, which will see the development of the town through to 2050 and beyond. Cutting carbon emissions and supporting a more sustainable way of life are key to our strategy and ‘vision’ and Solar Together Hertfordshire is an excellent example of how collaborative working with local partners, can open up exciting new opportunities to achieve these aims.’

Marie-Louise Abretti, iChoosr UK Solar Manager, added: ‘With energy prices continuing to increase, residents of Dacorum are looking for opportunities to reduce their carbon emissions, save on energy bills and increase their independence from the grid. The Solar Together group-buying scheme offers a straightforward way to make an informed decision and to access a competitive offer from a trusted, vetted provider.’
